How to Bet Sportsbooks

Betting on Sportsbooksby Joe Pav

Successful betting on Sportsbooks, or successful handicapping requires a substantial amount of homework and a systematic approach to gambling and money management. Profitable gambling on sportsbooks games has its price and you must be willing to put in the time and research.Top Sportsbooks will show you some of the things you’ll need to know to make better picks and win more money this season.

1. Always approach the sportsbooks games in terms of an entire season.Don’t try to win big on one game and set your goals to win more games than you lose over the long haul of an entire season. If you are serious about success, you must make a plan and remain disciplined. You should plan the proper bet size on each play or game. You should never risk more than 5% of your bankroll on any one play. I would guess that most of the sportsbooks gamblers are wagering too much on each game and ask you not fall into that same trap.

2. Narrow your weekly gambling choices down and make quality bets. Narrow your weekly gambling choices down to no more than seven games per week. It’s a rare week when more than a few games will stand out as good gambling values. Find these games and you’ll better your odds of winning more than you lose. Whatever system you use for your sportsbook betting remember to keep it simple. You don’t want to worry so much about how much each play is worth and forget to handicap. If you want to be successful at sports betting remember that money management will be important.

3. Look for the best early moneyline and point spread values in the season.Take advantage of early season point spread and money line value before the odds makers have had a chance to catch up with which teams are hot and which teams are not. During the early part of a season, look for teams that are playing much better or worse than expected to get your best value. Many novice handicappers concentrate on how a team performed the previous year, but in this era of salary cap constraints and constant roster turnover, teams never perform at the same level in two consecutive years. In addition, teams that performed well the previous year are no longer a good value because you are laying a much higher price with them, especially at the beginning of the next season. Start your handicapping analysis before the season starts so you’ll be ready to take full advantage of the first few weeks of the season.

4. Find the best odds and gambling lines. One last place to look for value is in the line itself. With hundreds of online sportsbooks already in existence, and more springing up every season, handicapping lines and point spreads will vary from one sportsbook to the next. Having multiple places to shop for the best lines offer bettors an extra point on many games. A few extra wins that would have been pushes, and pushes that would have been losses can make a huge difference in a handicapper’s bottom line at the end of a season. A few minutes of shopping around for one last chance of additional value will make certain that you are getting the best odds for your gambling dollars.

5. Use research not trends. The first type of a sportsbook gambling method is where you research as much as possible about the teams and the games specifically, weigh all the relevant substantive factors as best you can, and arrive at your best educated guess as to the likely outcome. The key to this method is a lot of research. The more informed your opinion or intuition is, the better. The second method involves looking for specific trends that appear to hit at a greater than chance rate, and then betting the games that fit these trends. The overwhelming majority of such trends have little or no predictive value whatsoever. One reason I say this is because there are an infinite number of possible trends like this, so of course you can always go back after the fact and find as many as you want that have hit at a surprisingly high percentage. But you want to identify the ones that will continue to hit at that above chance percentage, and that is a very elusive task. For all intents and purposes, ignore trends and concentrate on trying to figure out who is the better team and by how much.

How To Choose A Sportsbook – Guide To Online Sports Bettingby Ralf Vinogradov

Online Sports Gambling is a growing business with thousands of new players opening their accounts every day. There are new online sportsbooks and wagering establishments created every calendar day of the month, which is quite confusing for new players. It’s hard to decide and choose the best sportsbook out there. Here’s my quick guide for an unexperienced sports bettor, who is ready to roll and dive into action.

The very first thing to keep in mind is to take some time off to do some research with search engines. There are many watchdogs and webmasters who write online sportsbooks reviews and are active in several different sportsbooks forums around the world. If you notice complaints about certain sportsbook being unable to pay in time or just communicate with customers, beware. If you notice sportsbook to be blacklisted, forget that bookmaker – better safe than sorry. Even if their sign-up bonus appears to be tremendous.

We also advise you to check the location of the bookmaker. Always try to make sure that the company is legal and licensed under the government which they operate. There are some bookmakers that have limited accessibility and server uptime because of the government restrictions. Do not deposit there – it may turn out to be extremely annoying experience!

Okay, you’ve finally found a bookmaker and deposited few bucks. Now you have to test the customer service. Write them an e-mail and wait for an answer. If they’ve promised to be available 24/7 but reality is different, forget about them too. And if you are still not sure, you may also want to call them. If they don’t have a phone number at all (or it’s forwarded to cellphone), your landed on lousy sportsbook that can’t be trusted. Move on!

Trust is the most important aspect in this business. Even if everything seems to be ok, what does your gut say to you? If you’re still not sure, maybe you should stick to well-known land-based sportsbooks, to known brands. Good luck with those!

Sports Betting: 9 Strategies for Successby Michael Lee-Smith

Want to win like the pros at sports gambling? The biggest difference between professional gamblers and the rest of us is that professional bettors implement specific strategies on a consistent basis. While they enjoy the process, professionals don’t get caught up in the emotions of sports gambling.

It really comes down to consistent implementation of 9 key strategies. If you can adopt the following strategies when betting on sports, you’ll go a long way to improving your results and your payouts.

1. Be patient

There’s no way around it: successful gambling requires patience. That means take your time and be willing to wait for the “near” perfect opportunities. They come around every single week.

That’s not to say you should ignore last-minute betting opportunities. Sometimes, it is important to act quickly. Just keep in mind that if something seems too good to be true, it often is.

If you take your time and deliberate carefully about every betting proposition, the odds are much greater you’ll finish higher on the day.

2. Research, research, research

This is what your 4th grade teacher would have called “doing your homework”. Be aware of the competitive environment, understand how you can both win and lose money, and most importantly, collect as much information as possible.

Important considerations will include field conditions, weather, player injuries, team statistics and game schedules. Scour the internet for online sources of sports information and other online sports betting resources.

If you want long term success betting on sports, it’s absolutely vital you do your homework on each and every match. Guesses and hunches typically result in losses in the long run.

3. Play what you know

Sports gambling offers a wide variety of options and betting types, and often takes into account a range of terminology including lines, odds, and spreads, just to name a few.

As a result, it’s important to start with sports and teams you are familiar with. This will help you come to grips with the “context” of sports betting.

4. Seek out expert advice

The fun thing about sports wagering is that there is no shortage of commentary and expert advice. The challenge is filtering through all the available information and making a responsible betting decision.

This is where your research and experience come in handy: compare your expectations with predictions from experts in the sports betting field. Often there will be consensus. When there’s not, consider carefully why, and pay attention to those who go against conventional wisdom.

Nevertheless, expert sport gambling picks can often make it a lot easier to win at sports betting. The best idea is to look at a variety of betting sites and bet picking sites online, to see what the experts are recommending.

5. Don’t be a sucker

A sucker is often an inexperienced gambler who spots a “sure-win” they can’t pass up. Just keep in mind, if something looks like a sucker bet, it often is.

If you want to enjoy betting on sports, it’s vital you learn to stay away from these “too-good-to-be-true” bets. Quite often odds makers put up lines just to make sure people take the points. Don’t fall for it.

6. Allocate Your Money Properly

You’ll significantly reduce your risk if you spread you bets across a number of sports and games. In the long run it’ll be far better to bet $25 on 10 games than to bet $250 on a single game. There’s no such thing as a “sure thing”, so don’t be greedy, and don’t chase losing or winning bets.

The road to success in sports betting is long, slow, and steady.

7. Know your history: keep good records

How much have you won? How much have you lost? If you can’t answer those questions you are risking catastrophe with your sports betting. Many inexperienced gamblers don’t even realize how much money they are putting through their online gambling accounts. You are not “breaking even” if you are constantly funding your account, but if you don’t keep adequate records, how will you really know if sports betting is really the best type of entertainment for you.

8. Keep Perspective

It’s impossible to be emotionless when it come to sports betting. After all, the emotional rush is part of why many people gamble (whether in casinos, or online casino, or even through the lottery).

But if you want to experience outstanding results, be aware of your emotions and how they influence your wagering decisions. The more calm you bring to you betting, the better results you will enjoy. Why is this important? If you don’t control your emotions, you will be much more likely to make poor decisions trying to make up for previous losses.

If there’s one recommendation I would make over and over again, it is this: stay calm emotionally.

9. Find an Online Sportsbook

Internet sports wagers are far more convenient than the offline versions. Not only that, internet sportsbooks have no line-ups, meaning that while a live bookmarker might only be able to process 20-30 clients at a time, internet sportsbooks can process thousands simultaneously.

Another plus is that internet sportsbooks enjoy a significantly lower cost per wager, and these savings are passed on to gamblers on in the form of deposit bonuses or reduced juice to bettors.

So that, in a nutshell, are the 9 steps you must follow to make money betting on sports. The better you are at these tips, the more often you will win.

How Important are Sports Book Odds?by Kieth Bartlett

The odds or point spread is nothing more than some one’s opinion.

Although the point spread is often influenced by power rankings, it’s still only an opinion with the main goal of making both teams to bet on as appealing to the betting public. This is why most sports books have different starting lines. The action at certain sports books influences the the odds changing. Because the point spreads that each book offers is influenced by the betting of their customers, it is extremely important that you look around for the best odds and point spreads. Sports betting can already be a difficult undertaking, so any edge that you can gain is worth it. This being said it is extremely important that you have multiple sports betting accounts at various online sports books.

For a review of some great online sports books you can visit here:

I am sure you aware of the difference between a line of 3 or 3.5, but if you don’t here is a quick explanation. On sports such as Basketball and Football the odds makers assign a point spread number to the team that is favored. If we use the number 3 or 3.5 from above this would mean that if you choose the favorite for that game they would have to win by 3 points or 3.5 points. As insignificant as it seems, there are many games that are decided by 3 points (especially in NFL). So if you chose to place a wager on the favorite with a 3 point spread and they won by only 3 it would be considered a tie or push and your money would be returned to you. No real harm done, but if you had the same team at minus 3.5 then you would actually lose that wager. If this happen to you several times during a season which could be the difference of winning or losing several hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Like many, I have been on the losing end of a bet by a half point and it doesn’t feel good. Since sports betting is all about looking for the best value, it is important to shop for the best line.

For sports like Baseball, Hockey and Tennis where they use the money line, not having the best lines can be the difference between having a losing season or a winning season. Let’s look at this example below.

New York Mets -130 Pinnacle

New York Mets -135 Bet365

New York Mets -145 Bookmaker

This tells us that the Mets are the favorite. At Pinnacle you would have to wager $130 to win $100, at Bet365 it would be $135 and at Bookmaker $145 to win that same $100. As you can see that is a swing of $15 dollars for every hundred which over the duration of a season and the year can add up to several thousand dollars.
